Winter Haven Rail Terminal Facility
//Winter Haven, Florida
TransDevelopment served as the turnkey, design-build General Contractor to construct a state-of-the-art rail terminal in Winter Haven, Florida.
Strategically located between Orlando and Tampa and rail-served by CSX Transportation, the greenfield terminal includes three wide-span rail-mounted gantry cranes. The crane system spans five CSX Intermodal tracks, truck roadways, and features cantilevers serving container stacks on either side of the working area. The 300-acre, $70 million project is one of the largest new intermodal terminals under development in the eastern United States. It includes 14 miles of new mainline and facility trackwork, 30 acres of heavy-duty roller-compacted concrete pavement, four site buildings, and upgrades to five existing at-grade crossings. Two 70’ long rail bridges were construction as part of the mainline project. The mainline project was constructed on an existing right-of-way, which handles both CSXT and Amtrak train traffic. The railway was in continuous operation throughout the development process.
The project includes a 1.6-mile public roadway project, which provides access to the terminal. The roadway is designed in heavy-duty roller-compacted concrete pavement, and includes a new, 220’ road bridge, as well as 1,400 linear feet of MSE retaining walls. TransDevelopment completed this roadway project with a design-build responsibility.
